The Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun investigations after recovering firearms and ammunition from an abandoned vehicle on the Aputuoagya–Bekwai Road.
The Kuntanase District police patrol team, during a routine check, spotted a white Toyota Sienta private vehicle with registration NR 289-24, suspiciously parked near a bushy area along the roadside.
Two male adults who were observed standing beside the vehicle, allegedly smoking a substance suspected to be a narcotic drug, bolted upon noticing the approaching police team.

Authorities say the illicit items uncovered during the search indicates attempts to commit crime in the region.
“A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a cache of weapons and items. The police retrieved one AK-47 assault rifle with serial number 29546, one locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines loaded with 30 rounds each, and four packets of ammunition containing 25 rounds each,” a police statement read.
Additionally, seven loose rounds, a pair of Wellington boots, a Huawei smartphone, cowrie shells, a pair of sandals, and identity documents were also recovered.

The vehicle has since been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station, with all seized items held as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the public against violent crime and urged residents to assist in tracing the suspects.

“We encourage anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station or use the emergency numbers 191, 18555, or 112,” the statement read.
