According to a press release issued by the Central Regional Command’s Public Affairs Unit on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, the incident occurred on Friday, 20 February 2026, at about 3:30 p.m., after the final day of an inter-colleges sports festival at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Police said the victim, identified as Rexford Owusu-Ansah, was attacked at Pedu Junction while returning to campus with two friends.

The suspects allegedly stopped the students to confirm whether they were from Adisadel College before launching the assault.
While the victim’s two friends managed to escape, he was reportedly overpowered, kicked to the ground and beaten. The attackers are also alleged to have taken his iPhone 17 Pro Max, GH¢1,400 in cash and his shoes.
Authorities of Aggrey Memorial Senior High School later handed over the six juvenile suspects to the Kotokuraba Police Station at about 7:30 p.m. the same day.
The victim received initial treatment at the stadium clinic before being referred to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital. He was discharged on Sunday, 22 February 2026.
A police medical report, endorsed by a doctor, indicated that the student sustained a fractured bone around his right eye, rendering him unable to open it.
The victim’s two friends have reportedly informed police that they can identify the attackers.
“The Central Regional Police Command strongly condemns the violence and assures the public that due process will be followed as the juvenile offenders will face the full rigours of the law,” the statement, signed by Acting Head of Public Affairs ASP Patrick Bentum, concluded.
