The Accra International Book Festival (AIBF) has congratulated Ghanaian women on the International Women’s Day (IWD), charging them to aim for excellence.

The Book Festival in a statement Friday, said the contributions of women in the country over the past decades have been felt by all Ghanaians.

“The flame lit by the excellence of Ghanaian women in the discharge of their respective duties continue to be a source of light for all,” the statement read.

Today marks the International Women’s Day set aside to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women across the world.

The theme for this year’s celebration is: “A balanced world is a better world,” charging every society to aim for gender parity and rid the world of bias.

The Book Festival believes the outpouring of evil behaviours in the world today is due to the maltreatment of women.

“We can live in peace, prosperity and free from evil acts if we learn to forge a more gender-balanced world. This can be done and this is what we must commit to doing,” the AIBF noted in the statement.

The Book Festival has implored African governments to work toward improving the livelihood of their citizens to live a befitting life.

“We need to take stock of the achievements of our women in Africa and we believe they are numerous,” the statement concluded.
