Action Aid-Ghana has expressed concern over increase in girls abduction in the Upper West region.
According to the Upper West programs manager of Action Aid George Jerry, most of the girls between the ages of 14 and 25 years abducted are married to men against their will.
In an interview with JoyNews’ correspondent Rafik Salam, he also revealed that about hundred young girls have been abducted in the last two years.
George Jerry explained that most of the girls are abducted by their prospective husbands on their way to school or the market and later pay their bride price to their parents.
He noted that such acts which happens only in deprived communities are a serious threat to girl child education in the region.
George Jerry said they are engaging with the Upper West regional House of Chiefs to abolish the practice.
