Mahama had acid poured on him Wednesday night by two assailants, one of whom has been picked up by the police.

The death has shocked the nation and the party has begun mourning the death of a stalwart.
There has also been cases of violence in the Upper East Region as a result of the death with the 2nd deputy Regional Chair hospitalised after he was attacked by angry party youth. His vehicle was also vandalised.
A day after the death was confirmed, the family members, sympathisers have gathered at the home of the late Mahama to commiserate with the wife and children.
The family spokesperson told Sore the family is shocked by the incident but has left it to the Almighty God.
He would rather the party youth remain calm as the police begin investigations into the matter.
"We are happy with the police and the effort they are doing but we have not spoken to them," he indicated.
He said Mahama's immediate family is ready and is waiting for the political family to arrive for the burial ceremony to be held hopefully tomorrow.
The leader of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo who was on a tour of Europe cut short his tour and is expected in the country later Friday to mourn with the family.
