The Media Coalition for Development – Adansi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of eight public officials in the recent helicopter crash at Adansi Brofoyedru near Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on August 6.
The group described former Obuasi East NDC parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, who perished in the accident, as “a proud son of Adansi”, while paying tribute to the others.
The other victims who lost their lives were
- Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Defence Minister
- Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation
- Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, a military officer
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, a military officer
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, a military officer
In a statement dated August 10, 2025, and signed by its chairman, Robert Anokye Gyamfi, the coalition extended its condolences to the state, the bereaved families, and all affected.
However, the coalition condemned what it called “unsavoury public comments” made about youth and farmers who assisted in the recovery and evacuation process.
“Describing these young individuals as ‘villagers and thieves’ is not only unjust but also ungrateful. We strongly condemn such remarks,” the release added.
The coalition further emphasised that the youth of Adansi and surrounding communities “demonstrated remarkable courage, compassion, and patriotism in the face of tragedy”.
“They acted out of good faith and love for their country and humanity, and their efforts were instrumental in the recovery process. If we cannot reward their selflessness during this period, we should at least have the decency to acknowledge their contributions and express our gratitude,” the coalition stressed.
Special Recognition
The coalition further praised the Ashanti Region Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene; the Akrofuom District Chief Executive, Gariba Mohammed; and other MMDCEs in Adansi for their leadership in ensuring a successful recovery and evacuation.
“Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to preserving the dignity of the deceased are truly commendable,” the statement noted. “Your selfless service and coordination with security agencies and other stakeholders have been exemplary, and we appreciate your efforts in ensuring that the dignity of the deceased was respected and maintained throughout the recovery process.”
The coalition further applauded their commitment to public service, adding:
“We salute your leadership and commitment to public service, and we are confident that your efforts will not go unnoticed. Thank you for your service to the nation!”
Call for National Support
The statement concluded with an appeal to all Ghanaians:
“We urge all well-meaning Ghanaians to join us in condemning such unwarranted comments and to appreciate the efforts of these young individuals who demonstrated remarkable humanity in the face of tragedy.”
