In the male-dominated media industry, it is always refreshing and admirable when a lady braves all odds and excels in her field.
One such beam of light among the female folk in the Ghanaian media is Deborah Osaah, known in showbiz as Adwoa Saah.
Ghana's only Twi-novela series, Kumkum Bhagya on Multi TV's Adom TV is arguably the most viewed TV show in the country today for two reason; firstly, because it is in Twi, and the other reason is the skill and flare with which Adwoa Saah hosts the Kumkum Bhagya Chat Room show.
Lovers of Kumkum Bhagya and its Chat Room show describe Adwoa as a natural, because her gorgeous looks and infectiously sweet personality radiates from the screen into the heart of viewers, and they testify that it is relaxing and fun watching and listening to her.
Even though she had been on TV prior to the Kumkum Bhagya Chat Room, the show has particularly endeared her to lots of TV lovers both in Ghana and abroad.
But her journey to our homes started way back in Trede in the Ashanti Region where she hails from. Adwoa had her primary and junior high school education at Peters Educational Center at Kwadaso in Kumasi. She then continued to Asanteman Senior High School, after which she picked up some broadcasting skills at Medianet.
Her passion for the media limelight and desire to use her unavoidably gorgeous personality to help her community, took her through the drill till she landed the rare opportunity to represent the Ashanti Region in Ghana’s Most Beautiful Reality Show on TV3 in 2007. She finished as the second runner up that year.
During her days at Ghana's Most Beautiful, Adwoa earned the nickname "Adwoa Asantewaa" after the legendary and brave Ashanti female warrior, Yaa Asantewaa. In many ways, she exuded bravery during the pageant.
All the newspapers which wrote about her performance in the pageant, could not stop talking about her eloquence. Adwoa speaks impeccable English, and so it came as a surprise to many how well she also spoke her native Ashanti Twi.
It was therefore a matter of course that she got the opportunity to host Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2008 Magazine show on TV3. Adwoa proved to be a natural and was drafted to host Easy Text Game Show as well as be co-host for Onie all on TV3.
Having proved her prowess on the screen, she decided to take a shot at radio and that took her Kesben FM in Kumasi, the capital of the region she so proudly represented as a beauty ambassador.
From there she joined the Multimedia Group Limited in 2011, as host of The Premiere on Cine Afrik. But that was brief because her hunger for education made her leave for school in the United Kingdom.
Adwoa recounts how Joy Prime Channel Manager, Nana Yaa Sarpong, gave her the opportunity to host the Entertainment Review Show on her return from the UK.
She also got to host one of the most impacting shows on Adom TV, called Barima Nkwai, where she hosts men of stature as they show their skills in the kitchen.
When the popular Kumkum Bhagya hit the Adom TV screens last year, and the need for a chat room show emerged, it was not difficult to find a perfect moderator as Adwoa Saah had proved beyond measure that she fits the bill when it comes to getting audiences hooked on.
Kumkum Bhagya has since its inception been on the Adom TV Channel on MultiTV every Monday to Friday between 8:00pm and 8:30pm and Adwoa comes on with the chat room show from 8:30pm to 9pm.
But by popular request, from March this year the series itself will show for one hour, between 8:00pm and 9:00pm and Adwoa will come on with her guests in the chat room from 9:00pm - 9:30pm.
It is not surprising how much life Adwoa brings to the Kumkum Bhagya experience for the audience, because, in her words, the soap is "gripping" and "contagious".
“The experience is incredible because it is dubbed in Twi - it’s like someone picked a pen and decided to write about your life. The writer is really talented," she said.
Adwoa is still riding high in her ambassadorial role as she currently serves as brand ambassador for Royco and also the face for DMK Ghana, a cosmetics line.
Obviously, the Multimedia Group Limited struck diamond in finding another talented TV presenter for their Adom TV Channel; and from all indications, Adwoa Saah isn't resting on her oars any time soon.
