The Minister for Trade and Industry over the weekend campaigned for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan ahead of the by-election in the constituency.
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen together with some NPP national executives went house-to-house stressing the need for the party to retain the seat. He also addressed residents at Tesano and its environs on the need to retain the NPP for massive developments in the area.
Alan Kyereman is optimistic that, given the competence of their candidate, the election will be a “cool chop” for the governing NPP.
He urged the constituents to vote massively for Lydia Alhassan to continue to legacy of her late husband. The constituency became vacant following the sudden demise of the Member of Parliament (MP), Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.
He passed on November 21, 2018 after he had gone to the United States to seek medical care for an undisclosed medical condition.
Wife of the deceased, Lydia Alhassan, has since been given the nod to stand as the NPP’s candidate for the by-election.
She will, therefore, compete against the National Democratic Congress’ candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong in the upcoming by-election.
Ayawaso West Wuogon is seen as a safe seat for the governing NPP since it first took the seat in 2000.
Three successive NPP MPs – George Isaac Amoo, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and Emmanuel Boakye Agyarko have all won the seat.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has set January 31, 2019 for the Ayawaso West-Wuogon by-election.
