A Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr Alex Segbefia has denied media reports that the Chairman of the Confiscated Car Committee, Carl Wilson and his deputy have been sacked.
He said there was no iota of truth in the reports but conceded that the presidency was considering whether keeping Mr. Wilson on his job - given the persistent negative media attention he has attracted for himself and the government – was in the interest of the government.
“I am aware that there are considerations with regards to the amount of negative publicity that has been meted out against him… that means that it is now becoming a topical issue…and that might not be beneficial to government…”
Mr Carl Wilson and his deputy Nana Olivier have been embroiled in allegations of involvement in a car stealing syndicate.
Olivier is reported to have pulled a gun on a security operative at the Tema Port when he was denied access to a container of stolen vehicles. The reports say he was dispossessed of the gun, arrested and handed over to the police.
Mr Segbefia said the accused has been suspended pending the outcome of investigations into the incident.
He however insisted that Carl Wilson is still at post even though the government is contemplating whether to maintain him there.
The Daily Guide newspaper, Monday reported that the two had been given the boot.
