The office of former President John Mahama says the Special Prosecutor will be breaching the Constitution if he dares to invite John Mahama over allegations of diversion of state funds.
"They should not even dare, and you can check the Ghanaian constitution. They won't dare. The courts are not there to protect one individual. The courts are there to protect every citizen of Ghana," Mr Mahama's Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, said on Nhyira FM's 'Kro yimu Nsem' programme.
She describes as false and surprising allegations that the former President diverted $13 million meant for development into his private account.
Four private citizens have petitioned Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to investigate the former President over claims that he held on to funds from E.O Group, a private oil firm, meant for the development of Western Region.
The action, according to the petitioners, is informed by an article published by Mr. Amidu on Ghanaweb.com in December 2016.
Madam Bawa, however, says it is NPP’s diversionary tactics to cover up for its bad and scandal-ridden government.
She says the petitioners got it wrong by quoting Mr. Amidu to support their argument. According to her, Mr Amidu speaks on perception without evidence.
"In any case, a statement that is borne out of conjecture, out of mischief, not founded in law; has no basis and it's not even logical," she stressed.
