The Member of Parliament for Pru West, Emmanuel Kofi Ntekuni, has revealed that it was the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh who ordered the tables to be pulled apart during the confusion that erupted at the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, 30th January.
The confrontation between the majority and minority sides of the house resulted in the destruction of public property, prompting Speaker Alban Bagbin to suspend four MPs and establish an investigative committee to probe the incident.
Speaking before the investigative committee on Wednesday, February 5, Mr Ntekuni recounted the events, explaining that when he saw Annoh-Dompreh’s actions, he was surprised when the latter confronted him, asking, “Who are you?”
Undeterred, Mr Ntekuni said he approached him, gently tapped him on the back, and said, “Honourable, you’re a leader. You don’t need to do this and destroy state property.” He said Mr Dompreh turned to face him again, repeating his question: “Who are you?”
He said he remained calm but firm, and responded, “I am the MP for Pru West.” He said Dompreh then replied, “This won’t happen,” before insisting, “The command has been given. Pull the tables and gadgets apart.”
The situation escalated as the minority MPs tried to pull the tables apart, while the majority MPs attempted to push them back together.
He said as the tensions grew, the Chief Whip intervened to support the minority and help keep the tables together, preventing further damage to state property.
