The Court of Appeal has by unanimous decision ordered that accounts belonging to businessman Alfred Woyome be released to him. The court ruled that he is entitled to access all of his accounts except for those with the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB). The Economic and Organised Crimes Office froze Mr Woyome’s accounts following allegations that he defrauded the state through false pretense in a controversial GH¢51 million judgment debt scandal that rocked the country in early 2011. He was hauled to court but his hearing has been beset by numerous adjournments after prosecution repeatedly failed to produce witnesses. Joy News' Anny Osabutey reported on Thursday that the Appeals Court nullified the fraud office’s decision. However, Woyome’s accounts at the ADB remain frozen because these are the accounts through which the GH¢51 million transaction was processed. He is reportedly pleased with the court's decision, telling Osabutey that he can now do business for the first time since his embarrassing arrest and the freezing of all his accounts.
