AshantiGold managed to secure their top-of-the-table position with a 2-0 win over Inter Allies in the FCPPL on Saturday.
With chasers Heart of Lions and Aduana Stars scheduled to play their respective match day 13 games on Sunday, leaders AshantiGold moved their points tally to 26 courtesy goals from Namibian import Petrus Shitembi and Emmanuel Osei.
The on-loan AmaZulu FC playmaker opened the scoring with his second of the season as early as the 10th minute. He perfectly followed a through ball from striker Yakubu Mohammed to displace Mustapha Odam who went on to have a brilliant time in post for Inter Allies.
Inter Allies immediately pushed for a quick equalizer but efforts from attacking trio Frederick Yamoah, Prosper Kassim and Sheriff Deo Mohammed were equally denied by saves from Black Stars shot-stopper Fatau Dauda.
The rain began to set in but the Miners turned on possession for greater part of the game and were later in the second half, rewarded with another goal.
Skilful midfielder Emmanuel Osei put the game out of the reach of the visitors with a super 30-yarder strike – a contender for the goal of the season just on the 70th minute mark.
Inter Allies were chanced to find a consolation goal in the final minutes with a free-kick just near the AshGold penalty area but Niare Benogo haplessly skied his kick.
The Eleven Is To One side, with 20 points, look set to drop from their fourth position after all match day 13 games are played on Sunday.
