La Liga giants Atletico Madrid have won the race to sign highly rated Ghana midfielder Bernard Mensah.
The 20-year-old central midfielder who was courted by Valencia, Manchester United and recently Fenerbahce, joins the dethroned Spanish champions on a six-year deal from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.
Mensah, who recently earned his first international cap with the Ghana national team will however spend the coming season on loan at Getafe.
"Bernard Mensah is now an Atletico Madrid player after his transfer agreement was reached with Vitoria Guimaraes. The Ghanaian player has signed with our club for six seasons but will play the first of these on loan at Getafe," the club has announced.
Mensah arrives in Atletico after scoring five goals in 30 appearances for Vitoria Guimaraes in the Portuguese Liga last season.
