The Black Stars of Ghana secured a crucial 3-2 victory against the Hawks of Togo to keep their CAN 2015 qualification dream alive.
The victory is as much important for Coach Kwasi Appiah whose continued stay at post depended heavily on the game reports have said.
And for a weekend that saw the Black Stars' popularity wane even further following a listless 1-1 scoreline against Uganda, Appiah's career as Black Stars' coach hanged by the thread.
Even a draw was not going to be good enough for the former Kotoko manager and when the Hawks took an early lead in the 12th minute Appiah and his charges were in for trouble.
It took ten minutes for the Ghanaians to respond and who else than Asamoah Gyan. The skipper who has been criticised for issues outside the field than on it, pulled parity in what will be one of the most important goals for his side.
He soared above his markers and headed home a corner from close range.
It was quite a difficult game as both sides struggled to control the ball on what looked like a potato field. Chances were few and far between but when it came it was Agyemang Badu who made it count.
The Udinese midfielder who made it into the Stars starting line up for the first time in as many games, headed home a teasing cross from the left as the Stars jetted into the lead in the 33rd minute.
The Stars held on to the slim victory until the game went into recess.
On their return from the dugout it was the Stars who showed promise with Christian Atsu proving a slippery customer on the left for his marker. But on too many occasions the last touch from the Everton midfielder failed to reach its destination.
Dede Ayew should have increased the tally for the Stars but could not reach an immaculate cross on the right from Harrison Afful.
In the 51st minute the Hawks nearly pulled the equaliser but a great strike on the edge of the 18 yard box by one of the Togolese midfielders whisked just wide.
Tottenham striker Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor who had been anonymous in the game showed class when he soared above his markers to head home a cross in the 75th minute.
With a quarter of an hour left and with Dede Ayew substituted the chances of the Black Stars scoring was limited all the more.
Jordan Ayew in a breathtaking solo effort weaved his way past many Togolese defenders but with just the goal keeper to beat, his shot from his weaker left foot went agonisingly wide.
With six minutes left, Gyan beat his marker and set up Atsu who with his nimble left foot beat his marker and tip-toed the ball into the net for a crucial victory for the Black Stars.
