A fourth person has been reported dead from Friday's tanker explosion and subsequent inferno at Axim in the Western Region. Others who sustained serious burns have been airlifted to Accra for care.
Most of the injured were initially rushed to the Axim Government Hospital where reports said health officials wre overwhelmed by the numbers.
Acting Hospital Administrator, Joseph Ayeni told Joy News, some of the patients needed immediate referral to the Effia Nkwanta Hospital if they were to survive the burns.
Explaining the circumstances surrounding the explosion, he said a generator being used to provide power for the distribution of pre-mix fuel owing to a power outage sparked flames resulting in the wasteful inferno.
The Fire Service was called in to fight the blaze.
One of the officers, Edwin Kofi Jerry who spoke to Joy News from the scene said the fire was very intensive and destructive.
He said those affected by the fire were fishermen who were queuing for the supply of premix fuel.
