The Ghana Remote and Online Work Project (GROW) is a coalition-driven project which is up-skilling young Ghanaian women, and men, to work in remote professions by delivering short and intensive training, offer support in securing job and freelance opportunities, create scalable employment opportunities within remote work, and drive economic mobility for young people and their families.
The “GROW” program is an initiative by Generation in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and includes local partners such as Azubi Africa, MEST Africa, The Blossom Academy, The Whizzy Academy, and the Women’s Haven among others.
Empowering Ghana’s Workforce with In-Demand Cloud Computing Skills
Over 18 weeks, Azubi Africa and Generation Ghana aim to upskill unemployed and underemployed young Ghanaians—particularly women—with critical cloud computing skills to thrive in remote roles and secure freelance or full-time opportunities in the tech industry.
The curriculum is designed to address industry demands, covering cloud systems administration, Python programming, infrastructure as code, containerisation, and advanced AWS services.
Participants will work toward earning the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, a globally recognized certification that enhances their employability in a competitive job market.
The program takes a hands-on approach, emphasizing practical skills that directly align with employer needs.
Participants will also engage in activities such as portfolio building, mock interviews, and mentorship sessions, ensuring they are job-ready upon completion.
"The partnership with Generation Ghana comes at a crucial time when the demand for cloud computing professionals is surging.
"This program will catalyse economic mobility, enabling participants to access life-changing career opportunities in the tech sector," said Marine Houmeau, Director of Academy & Careers, Azubi Africa.

Strengthening Employer Engagement
At the heart of this program is a commitment to building strong connections between learners and employers.
Azubi Africa and Generation Ghana are collaborating with local and international companies to align training content with market needs, ensuring participants are equipped to meet the expectations of hiring managers.
Employer engagement is a core pillar of the program’s success, featuring job fairs, networking events, and tailored support to connect graduates with hiring employers as they transition into the workforce. These efforts aim to create a seamless bridge between skilled talent and the job market.
"By strengthening employer engagement and building strong industry connections, we are creating pathways for young talent to access life-changing opportunities and positioning Ghana as a hub for tech innovation and excellence," Vandyck Lomotey, Ghana Country Programs Director, Generation.

A Commitment to Gender Diversity in Technology
In a tech landscape where women are often underrepresented, this program stands out for its deliberate effort to level the playing field.
By dedicating 70% of its slots to female learners, the program addresses the systemic barriers that women face in entering and excelling in tech careers.
"Tech, cloud computing, and AI are the future—and Ghana must be a key player in this global landscape. At Generation Ghana, we are committed to ensuring that young Ghanaians, particularly women, are equipped with the critical skills needed to thrive in this digital era.
"Our partnership with Azubi Africa not only prepares learners with in-demand cloud skills but also fosters diversity by dedicating 70% of program slots to women," Vandyck Lomotey, Ghana Country Programs Director, Generation.
A Shared Vision for Impact
This collaboration leverages Azubi Africa’s expertise in tech education and Generation Ghana’s innovative approach to bridging the gap between talent and employment. Both organizations share a commitment to equipping Ghanaians with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
This program builds on Azubi Africa’s legacy – having prepared more than 4,000 learners for roles in the global tech industry. Through its emphasis on job outcomes, employer engagement, and inclusion, this program represents a significant step toward Azubi Africa’s larger goal of enabling 10,000 tech jobs in Africa by 2027.
