Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has strongly criticised Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng for describing the party as a “fake party”, describing the remarks as reckless and deeply offensive.
Mr Blay said the comments were particularly alarming, coming from a senior party figure who still claims membership of the NPP.
He argued that such statements undermine party unity and reflect irresponsible conduct.
According to Mr Blay, the episode highlights one of the downsides of democratic freedoms, which allow individuals to freely express opinions, even when those views are damaging to the organisations they belong to.
“Anybody who talks like that is talking irresponsibly, especially when he claims to be a member of the party. It is reckless to speak in that manner. It is democracy that has suffered. When you practise democracy, you allow people to say what they want, and then you end up defending them, even when they are speaking foolishly,” he said in a Citi FM interview.
Mr Blay’s comments follow an interview on Channel One TV in which Prof. Frimpong-Boateng criticised the NPP, describing it as a “fake party” and stating that he no longer recognised its current leadership.
Despite the backlash, the former Environment Minister has insisted that he has no plans to resign from the NPP, even as the party begins internal processes that could result in his expulsion over the remarks.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng has also indicated that he will not honour any invitation to appear before the party’s National Executive Committee or its Disciplinary Committee.
