The Member of Parliament for Afadjato South, Frank Afriyie has called on the youth of the Volta region to exercise patience and maintain calmness in the wake of recent unrest.
This appeal followed an alarming incident on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, when disgruntled supporters set fire to the National Democratic Congress Ho Central Constituency office.
The act of violence sent shockwaves across the region, prompting widespread concern about its implications for democracy and the rule of law.
Mr Afriyie expressed his dismay at the incident, describing it as an unsettling phenomenon that undermines the principles of democratic governance.
He emphasised the importance of addressing grievances through dialogue and lawful channels, urging the youth to avoid actions that could derail peace and progress.
He reminded the young people that the properties being destroyed ultimately belong to them as future leaders.
In his view, these assets are essential to the development and stability of the region, and their destruction would only deepen challenges for future generations.
The MP also reassured the youth that better days lie ahead.
He highlighted the promise of the 24-hour economy, which he believes will create numerous jobs and opportunities for the youth to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth.
