Key members of the senior national team, the Black Stars, have given firm commitment to the impending Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio Charity Match, fixed for Friday, June 29, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Among some of the players who have given firm commitment to the match are Derek Boateng, Anthony Annan, Jerry Akaminko and John Boye.
A statement from the organizers of the match, Primeval Consult copied to GNA Sports, said more players are expected to join the charity match, as the firm has reached an agreement with majority of the players.
The statement said both current and retired players of the Black Stars are bent on playing a role in the match, which is aimed at raising funds for the veteran coach as well as the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The statement said other retired players of the national team including Stephen Appiah, C.K. Akunnor and Samuel Osei Kuffour among others would be brought on board to help in the fundraiser to become a success.
According to the statement, head coach James Kwesi Appiah and his assistants have also given their commitment to the match and are ready to provide technical guidance on the day.
Coach Attuquayefio, one of the Ghana’s renowned coaches has for the past two years been battling with throat cancer.
The illness truncated his illustrious coaching career which saw him chalk several successes as a coach.
Proceeds from the match would go to the coach whilst the rest would be donated to the ENT Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The match would be played between members of the Black Stars and 'Friends of Cecil Jones Attuquayefio'.**
