ABUJA— Following intelligence reports indicating that Boko Haram suicide bombers have been sent to unleash bomb attacks on military formations, including the Defence headquarters of the armed forces, military personnel have been put on alert with the Defence headquarters in Abuja, now a no go area.
Vanguard gathered that the Armed Forces have received intelligence report which shows that the ‘boat house’ in particular, housing the DHQ, AHQ, NHQ and Air Force headquarters, was a primary target by the group to seek revenge for the devastating blows the military has inflicted on the group since the constitution of the Special Task Force in Maiduguri.
To checkmate the threat or any eventuality, Vanguard gathered, that the armed forces have put in place additional security measures.
Vanguard was told that the armed forces was not taking the threat lightly because of the bombings of the Police headquarters and the UN house barely few weeks ago hence the restriction of movement into and out of military formations, as well as the Defence headquarters.
Consequently, the Directors of Intelligence at headquarters Nigeria Army, DMI, Naval intelligence, DNI, and Air Force intelligence, DAI, are now personally coordinating security arrangements at the Defence headquarters supervised by a Major General.
As a result of the stringent security measures, anybody coming to the Defence Headquarters must be on appointment from a senior military officer while the road directly opposite the gate of the Defence headquarters has been blocked by military vehicles with fierce looking armed soldiers manning them.
Furthermore, Vanguard gathered that the military high command has consequently advised military officers within the complex to be wary of the type of visitors they invite into the complex while a directive for additional security equipment to check vehicles including that of military personnel have been deployed for use.
A top source at the Defence headquarters explained that the military is seen as the last hope of every Nigerian in this matter, adding that once this place is attacked the country is in trouble and that is why additional security measures are being put in place.
It was gathered that Boko Haram members have been boasting that since they have succeeded in bombing the police headquarters and the United Nations building in Abuja, there is nothing preventing them from bombing the Defence headquarters.
