The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has signed performance contracts with Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Coordinating Directors and Human Resource Managers as part of efforts to strengthen decentralisation and improve local governance in the region.

The signing ceremony, held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Bono Regional Coordinating Council, marked the official commencement of the 2026 performance assessment cycle for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Addressing the gathering, Mr Akwaboa stressed the need for strong collaboration between national and regional authorities, describing the performance contracts as critical tools for promoting professionalism, integrity, teamwork and prudent financial management at the local level.

He urged MMDCEs and heads of departments to demonstrate discipline and work effectively together in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of accountability, transparency and results-oriented governance.

A representative of the Local Government Service Council, Christopher Dapaah, highlighted the importance of public participation and accountability in local administration. He acknowledged persistent challenges facing assemblies, particularly in staffing and resource management.

To address concerns over favoritism in staff postings, Mr Dapaah disclosed that a new recruitment portal is being developed to ensure transparency and fairness in postings across the country.

He further announced that members of the Council will soon embark on district-level engagements to interact with local stakeholders and better understand development challenges.

According to him, the 15-member Council will undertake individual visits to districts at different times, with prior notice to be issued through the Regional Minister to ensure effective coordination.

Mr Dapaah explained that the engagements are aimed at gathering first-hand information on local needs and working collaboratively with district authorities to close development gaps.

Dean of the Bono MMDCEs and Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani, Vincent Antwi Agyei, reaffirmed the commitment of the MMDCEs to support the President’s development agenda.

He pledged that assemblies in the region will strictly adhere to laid-down rules and procedures to ensure efficient administration and accelerated development across the Bono Region.
