Ofosu Asare the man who prepared “The Beast” to take down Bukom Banku has noted that the image of Ghana boxing needs a better idol than the indisciplined Banku.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM on Monday, coach Asare said boxing in Ghana needs to be taken to bigger levels and if that dream is to materialize, then characters like Braimah Kamoko popularly known as Bukom Banku, needs to be replaced with Bastie Samir.
“Boxing is becoming more popular and as a boxer you need to have a respectable image, you need to lead because the youth will copy what you do and Bukom Banku does not have those traits so I believe by defeating him we will take that impression of ‘the idol of Ghana boxing’ from him”, he told Joy FM’s Kojo Yankson.
“People told us that, at the end, they will give it to Bukom Banku because he is more popular and you can’t do promotions without him, so I realized we have to win because we should be in his position because of his indiscipline”, he added.
When asked if “his boy”, Bastie deserved the title of ‘the disciplined one’ himself since he admitted that he didn’t follow the coach’s instruction in the first two rounds, the coach was quick to jump to the defense of Bastie that, the demeanor of Bukom Banku and his supporters and the misunderstanding that forced Bastie to change gloves had affected him.

On Saturday, October 21, Bastie Samir and Braimah Kamoko faced off in a much anticipated 12 round non-title bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena for which Kamoko promised a 6th round knockout but faced a humiliating defeat after he was rather knocked out in the 7th round to end his otherwise undefeated record.
The victory leaves Bastie still undefeated in 17 competitive bouts.
He credited his victory over the famous boxer to hard work and his exposure to international champions like Oscar De La Hoya and undefeated World champion, Floyd Mayweather.
Bastie also told Joy Sports reporter, Nathaniel Attoh that he is ready to give Barimah a chance to redeem himself.
