The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has donated sports equipment and a cash support to the Ga East Municipal Education Directorate and its sports teams to boost sporting activities in the municipality.
The presentation, made on Monday 16th March, 2026, forms part of efforts to promote youth development and encourage active participation in sports across schools in the Ga East Municipality.
Items donated included a range of sports kits, footballs, volleyball, netball, volleynet, water, drinks, medals, and trophies alongside an undisclosed amount of money to support training, competitions and other sporting events within the municipality.
Presenting the items, Mrs. Akurugu said investing in sports was key to nurturing talent and building discipline among young people.
“Sports play a vital role in shaping the lives of our youth. This support is to encourage them to stay active and pursue their talents with confidence,” she stated.
She added that the initiative was also aimed at complementing the efforts of the Education Directorate in promoting holistic development in schools.
“We must continue to create opportunities for our young people to grow not only academically but also physically and socially,” she noted.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Directorate, Municipal Director of Education, Eric Sey, expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as timely.
“This support will go a long way to enhance our sports programmes and motivate our teams to perform better,” he said.
Members of the municipal sports team also welcomed the donation, saying it would improve their preparation and participation in upcoming competitions.
The donation highlights Mrs. Akurugu’s continued commitment to youth empowerment and community development in the municipality
