The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has commissioned a renovated kindergarten block at the Taifa Community School, describing education as the foundation for the constituency's development.

The renovation of the kindergarten block was sponsored by Imperial Homes through its Imperial Charity Foundation as part of efforts to provide pupils with a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, Edmund Agboh; the Assembly Member for Taifa; the Queenmother of Taifa; members of the Council of Elders; Unit Committee Members; the Municipal Director of Education; the Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Schools; the School Management Committee (SMC); the PTA Chairman and executives; headteachers, teachers, pupils and residents.

Speaking at the event, Madam Akurugu thanked Imperial Homes and the Imperial Charity Foundation for partnering with her office to improve educational infrastructure in the constituency.

"I want to express my sincere appreciation to Imperial Homes and the Imperial Charity Foundation for supporting this important project.

“By investing in this kindergarten block, you are investing in the future of our children and the future of Dome-Kwabenya," she said.

The MP said education remains one of the key priorities of her tenure and highlighted several interventions she has undertaken to improve access to quality education in the constituency.

According to her, these include the distribution of desks to schools, exercise books to pupils, mathematical sets to BECE candidates, renovation of the Kwabenya Senior High School library, distribution of school uniforms, financial assistance to needy students and the introduction of the Elikplim Scholarship Scheme.

She noted that creating a conducive learning environment would help improve academic performance and inspire children to reach their full potential.

The Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, Edmund Agboh, urged teachers, pupils and the community to ensure the facility is properly maintained.

"This facility is for the benefit of our children. Let us all take responsibility for protecting it and ensuring that it serves generations of pupils," he said.

The Municipal Director of Education, Eric Sey, commended the MP for prioritising education and assured that the renovated facility would be put to good use.

"We are grateful to the Member of Parliament for this intervention. The Education Directorate will ensure that this facility is well maintained and used to support effective teaching and learning," he stated.
