A British philanthropist, Mr Sheaon Murphy, on Tuesday donated three computers, books, four wheelchairs and other items worth GH¢10,000 (¢100 million) to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and eight first and second cycle schools in the Mfantsiman district.
The other beneficiaries include the Mfantsiman Girls and Methodist High Schools, Catholic Boys and Girls, and D/A Junior High Schools and a nursery and kindergarten, all in Saltpond.
The UCC received several boxes of assorted academic books, and a scanner, while the junior and high schools received some history and literature books, computers with the nursery and kindergarten schools receiving some toys.
The four wheel chairs were presented to some disabled members of the community.
Mr Murphy, who has been installed the 'nkosuohene' of the area under the stool name of Nana Ato Kwamina Asokonfo I, is the Permanent Deacon of the St Edmond of Canterbury Parish in Britain and has already constructed a nursery complex in the town.
Nana Baah VII, Nifahene of the Nkusukum traditional area, presented the items to the various institutions on behalf of Mr Murphy, who is an adopted citizen of the area.
Nana Danso Mensah, Deputy Registrar, Division of Legal Counsel and General Services of the UCC, who received the donation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude for the donations and that he was happy other schools outside of Saltpond also received some items.
He promised that the books would be put to good use.
