An Energy Consultant, Mr Emmanuel Arthur, on Tuesday, called on Ghanaians to buy energy efficient appliances, in order to reduce cost of electricity bills and also conserve energy.
Mr. Arthur said this at a day's seminar, organized for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs), under the theme: 'Increasing Profitability through Energy Efficiency', in Takoradi.
The seminar, organized by the Energy Foundation, in collaboration with the Association of Ghana Industries, brought together about 60 SMEs in the areas of refrigeration, tailoring, electricity, photography amongst others.
He said the habit of calculating the cost of brand new appliances must be discarded, "When you are buying, look at its efficiency level as against the price".
Mr Ernest Asare, Executive Director, Energy Foundation, who was also at the function, said it was a follow-up on previous workshops held in Kumasi, Accra and Takoradi, to train industries on how to identify ways of using energy in a cost saving manner.
Mr Asare said the group of entrepreneurs in the SMEs sector needed information to ensure efficiency.
He noted that it was necessary for a business entity to revise their operating costs, with a focus on the electricity bills. Such SMEs should "employ energy efficient technologies and energy conservation practices to help reduce their operating costs".
Mr Asare said the foundation would continue to train the public to enable them to appreciate mainstream energy efficiency and conservation in their operations.Source: GNA
