Officials of the fire ravaged Catholic Church in Cape Coast have blamed yesterday’s fire on erratic power supply.
The 90-year old church, Francis de Sales Cathedral yesterday caught fire barely two hours after the evening Sunday Mass, destroying several properties.
Investigations have begun into what caused the blaze but church officials say they have experienced some electrical faults over the last few weeks.
Central Regional correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko visited the church early today and reports that the archives, where church books used for liturgical services and other historical items were kept has been completely burnt down.
Congregants also trooped into the church premises in awe to witness the destruction caused by the fire outbreak.
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of the Catholic Church in Cape Coast, Most Reverend Mathias Kobina Nketsiah told Joy News Monday that the disaster will not disturb church services.
According to him, even though some of the church's historic books were lost as a result of the fire outbreak, the damage was not extensive as it was envisaged.
Reverend Nketsiah therefore noted that the church will certainly restore the destroyed portion of the church since it poses danger to people.
