Job Adu Siaw, a driver whose reckless driving led to the death of three pupils and injuries to five other people, was on Tuesday sentenced to a fine of GHC1,080 by the Asamankese Circuit Court. Siaw pleaded guilty with explanation to careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm which caused an accident resulting in the death of Kwame Asare, Henry Akomeah and Rachael Agyeiwaa. Five other persons who were injured were Elizabeth Gyeiwa, Esther Abena, Issac Asare, Mary Kyeraa and Perpetual Dede. Police Chief Inspector Ben Brew told the court that at about 1535 hours on January 20, 2009 Siaw, who was driving KIA Sportage private car, veered to the nearside pavement at Apedwa junction, alleging that he was crossed by one Asare, a student of the Apedwa Presbyterian Junior High School. The vehicle then ran through a group of persons who were selling foodstuffs by the roadside, injuring them. The dead were all pupils of Little Angle Preparatory School at Apedwa who were waiting by the roadside to board vehicles home. Source: GNA
