A pressure group Forum for Governance and Justice has questioned the loud silence of the National Peace Council on the chaotic biometric registration exercise in parts of the country. The group condemned in no uncertain terms persons and entities connected to the violence at all polling stations. Odododiodio, Tafo Pankrono, and many centres across the country have recorded varying degrees of violence in the exercise which is in its second phase. The two leading political parties and their agents have been at the fore-front in accusing each other of perpetrating violence. This FGJ believes is unacceptable. A statement jointly signed by Dr. Clement A. Apaak, Convener, Forum for Governance and Justice – Ghana and Dr. Samuel C. K. Buame, Leading Member, Forum for Governance and Justice – Ghana said the violence cannot be allowed to persist. “The Forum for Governance and Justice (FGJ) condemns in the strongest terms entities and persons responsible for reported violent acts associated with the ongoing biometric voter registration,” the statement said, “…we are inclined to question why the National Peace Council (NPC) has been silent in the face of reported acts of violence in various parts of the Country associated with the ongoing biometric voter registration.” “Given its mandate, one would have expected the Council to make its presence felt by way of making a public statement, and by deploying its members and officers to hot spots across the nation to advocate for a peaceful registration process.” The statement urged the council to live up to its expectation and also reminded political parties that without peace there will be no campaign platform to mount.
