As a prelude to the restart of your number one local football video podcast, "Ghana League Cypher" on Monday June 8, the production team has put together key stats worth noting from the first round before the league takes off on June 7.
The first round produced 254 goals in 120 games, an average of about two goals per game.
A whopping 16 points separated table toppers, AshGold (29 points) from bottom dwellers Brong Ahafo (13). Of the 254 goals, 121 came in the first half and 133 came in second.
In a league, where home sides often rule on match day, it's not surprising to note that the first round ended with 78 home wins (79.15%) as against 13 away wins (20.83%).
Berkwai-based New Edubiase had the best attack but also the worst defence.
Their sharp attack led by Nuhu Fuseini netted 21 times. Their porous and uninspiring defense shipped in 27 goals, resulting in them finishing second from bottom.
The big guns, Kotoko and Hearts have won the league 43 times between them, with the former lifting the last three but same cannot be of the Phobians as they haven't claimed a silverware since 2008/2009 season.
Hearts and Kotoko were disappointing and hardly lived up to the billing in the first round, finishing 9 and 7 points behind the league leaders respectively.
To some, not seeing both one and two on the log means our football has dire problems but reality is that no one team is that ‘great’ anymore - parity is catching up with all the teams.
Nathaniel Asamoah was by far the standout player in the league as he comfortably sits top of the top scorers log with 12 goals, 47% of the total goals registered by Medema.
Aduana Stars were the Kings of home court as they won an astonishing 7 out of 7 home games.
Ashgold, was second to Aduana as the team with the most wins at home with 6 wins.
Newly promoted, WAFA, have been the surprise package in the league.
The Sogakope-based club finished the first round on a high following a string of excellent displays which earned them lots of praise from the media and fans.
Led by coach John Killa, a young and inexperienced but stubborn, WAFA won 7, drew 7 and lost just 4 games. Only 4 points adrift Ashgold and 3 and 5 above Kotoko and Hearts.
Berekum Chelsea wouldn't have occupied the sixth spot if not for the super duo of Stephen Baffour and Kofi Owusu who got 13 of 19 goals.
Midfielder Noah Martey got eight goals to his name, 50% of goals scored by Bechem United, he was their life wire and could be in the second round.
Hearts of Oak registered 17 goals thanks to Gilbert Fiamenyo. The bulky striker who wasn't a fan favorite last season and prior to the season impressively has 8 goals - 47% of the Phobians goals - to his name.
