The Chief Psychiatrist at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Akwasi Osei, is urging beleaguered Bishop Daniel Obinim to suspend his glamorous church activities for his own good.
Bishop Obinim, head pastor of the International God's Way Church, has been in the news recently for all the bad reasons and has been inundated with criticisms from persons of all walks of life.
And according to the Chief Psychiatrist, Obinim appears to be “the most traumatized person in the country now”.
In an article published in the Daily Graphic on Tuesday, Dr Osei prescribed that, without further delay, Bishop Obinim must see a clinical psychologist for counseling over his traumatic moments.
“Obinim is to shut himself up for a one-month retreat in prayerful medication as his former mentor Bishop Agyin-Asare recommended.
“After that Obinim will need to go and demonstrate his remorse to Bishop Agyin-Asare and the other apostles who initially arbitrated in his case, and then appeal to them to intercede for him to apologise to his wronged junior pastor and his wife.”
Later in an interview with Joy News’ Sammy Darko, Dr Akwasi Osei reiterated that with all the nation descending on him for his actions, it was usual, “unless he is not a normal human being…for somebody who saw himself as having come up to some point of glory, that situation, naturally, human as he is, I believe will have a catastrophic, emotionally traumatized effect on him.
“If he doesn’t recognise that [he is distressed], that itself is evidence of emotional numbness, that itself is a problem.”
He further noted: “These are very crucial steps that I think he needs to take. Otherwise, two possibilities: he may be able to pull up himself naturally, or it might mark the end of his career.”
Bishop Daniel Obinim is reported to have knelt before his congregation and begged them for forgiveness, where he was said to have disclosed that he had contemplated taking his life.
Moreover, Dr Akwasi Osei believes, based on what he is going through, it is possible everything may culminate into Obinim committing suicide.
