A lecturer at Ghana Business School has charged Ghanaians and traditional leaders to stop begging President John Mahama for development projects in their areas.
Dr. Thomas Buabeng says every community in Ghana is entitled to development projects because government uses taxes paid for such projects – admonishing them to stop begging for what is their right.
“The government uses our taxes for the development and the wellbeing of the people so I don’t think that Ghanaians should appeal to the government for any development” Dr. Buabeng stressed.
Dr. Buabeng, who also a policy analyst, was speaking Wednesday with Afia Pokua on Adom FM’s current affairs programme “Burning Issues” on the development of the Eastern Region.
“The politicians are taking the people for granted because we’re ignorant that our incomes are being used for infrastructural development,” Dr. Buabeng said.
His comments follow a plea the chief of Akim Brenase, Nana Oberempong Boakyi Sakyi II, for the President to fix the water problems, bad roads and lack of hospitals in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region.
The chief made the plea during the President’s “Accounting to the People” tour in the Eastern Region.
Dr. Buabeng said chiefs should desist from begging the President and the government of the day for development because the people are entitled to such development.
The governing NDC is hoping to split votes in the Eastern Region during the November 7 elections. NDC has said it will split the votes in the NPP stronghold 50-50.
The president’s “Accounting to the People Tour” in the Eastern Region, is seen as an attempt to achieve the 50-50 votes agenda.
Dr Buabeng adds that Ghanaians must come together to hold government of the day responsible and accountable for how their taxes are being utilized.
Dr. Buabeng believes that government must not sit aloof to wait for an election year before they think about the wellbeing and the development for the people.
