ZOOMLION Ghana Limited, a waste management company, is undertaking a special clean-up programme in all the 21 districts in the Ashanti Region.
The programme, designed as part of the preparations for the country’s Golden Jubilee celebration, will involve mainly refuse evacuation and cleaning of public places, notably sweeping of streets and desilting of drains.
Sharon Quarshie, Ashanti Regional Operations Manager of the company, told the Times here that the programme, basically a day’s affair, was being undertaken on different dates in selected towns in the districts.
She said the programme, being undertaken jointly with the District Assemblies, has successfully been completed in 14 of the districts.
They are Ejisu-Juaben, Asante-Akim North, Asante-Akim South, Sekyere East, Afigya-Sekyere, Sekyere West, Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma, Kwabre, Amansie West, Ahafo-Ano South, Atwima-Nwabiagya, Atwima-Mponua and Offinso.
The remaining districts – Amansie East, Amansie Central, Obuasi Municipality, Adansi South, Adansi North, Ejura-Sekye-dumase and Kumasi metropolis – are to be covered before the end of this month.
Ms Quarshie was optimistic that the programme would help to create a more hygienic environment conducive for the jubilee celebration.
