Liberty Professionals Coach J E Sarpong is a relieved man after escaping punishments from the Ethics Committee of the Ghana Football Association over comments against referees in the ongoing Glo premier league. J E Sarpong appeared before the Ethics Committee of the Football Association on Tuesday with the expectation of being punished for his recent comments. The coach was so furious at officiating in his side’s 2-2 draw with New Edubiase 10 days ago, as he declared a referee could be shot one day if officiating is not improved. The comments drew condemnation but the Ethics Committee has only asked the ex Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach to retract the comments and publicly apologize to the premier league and the people of Ghana. “Coach Sarpong during the hearing admitted to his wrong doing and was very remorseful hence our decision not to punish him,” Ethics Committee chairman Nana Adjei-Ampofo told JOY Sports. “He apologized to us but we have asked him to do same in public so we leave it at that.” In a related development, The Ethics Committee suggested to the Referees Appointment Committee to dismiss its Chairman, Osei Tutu for his alleged comments which suggested bias for Asante Kotoko. Osei Tutu reportedly said on a Kumasi-based radio station that he would not take any decision that would deny Asante Kotoko the league title this season.
