The Conference of Directors of Education (CODE) has endorsed the double-track system of education for students at Senior High School (SHS) level, which begins in September, this year.

This was contained in a communiqué issued by CODE at the end of its 25th annual conference in Tamale on Saturday.

The communiqué was signed by Margaret Frempong-Kore, National President of CODE, and Dr Daniel Annan-Edufful, National Secretary of CODE.

It called for “Timely and regular release of adequate funds to all directorates of education to ensure smooth and effective management and administration of schools and offices.”

It also called for “adequate, regular and timely supply of relevant textbooks, teachers’ manuals and other teaching and learning materials for the new curriculum at the pre-tertiary level.”

It said “Massive infrastructural development at the pre-tertiary level especially at the KG level will be needed.”

It said government intends to implement a double-track system of education at SHS level beginning from September, this year to amongst others take care of the high numbers of students, who will be seeking SHS level education in the country.

The communiqué said “CODE supports a harmonized curriculum of both National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, and the university colleges of education to make education functional and relevant to the needs of the country.”

It called for “Periodic in-service and capacity building workshops to enable teachers cope with the dictates of the new curriculum under consideration especially in the areas of technical and vocational education, and information and communication technology.”

It stressed the need for the “Provision of strong vehicles and suitable residential and office accommodation, which are critical needs of all directors.”

It demanded that the “provision of incentive packages for teachers teaching in deprived communities should be fully implemented to attract and retain teachers in such communities to ensure equity.”

It also called for “immediate placement of all director 11s on level 23 of the single spine salary structure.”

The communiqué expressed need for restructuring of the School Feeding Programme such that all schools in the same community should be beneficiaries to avoid the oversubscription of one and the collapse of others.
