Today marks the release of the COP28 Resilience Hub Report, offering crucial insights and recommendations to shape the path forward towards COP29 and beyond.
The report encapsulates the significant adaptation and resilience decisions made during COP28, highlighting key messages and findings from the Resilience Hub events while paving the way for future endeavors.
From the discussions held at the COP28 Resilience Hub, four overarching messages have emerged, emphasizing the need for reform in climate finance architecture to scale approaches for resilience effectively.
Equity, justice, and partnerships for resilience are underscored as vital components, alongside the intersection of health, climate, and resilience, stressing the importance of preparedness and socio-cultural considerations.
Additionally, the report addresses the challenges posed by increasing conflict and violence, which threaten to reverse significant development gains.
Razan Al Mubarak, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion of the United Arab Emirates, praised the Resilience Hub as a platform for showcasing solutions from civil society, particularly women, youth, and indigenous communities, towards a climate-resilient world.
“The Resilience Hub is a fantastic space at COP28 where civil society and specifically women, youth, local and indigenous communities can showcase their solutions for a climate-healthy and adaptive world. I’m looking forward to showcasing the achievements and promises of the Race to Resilience at COP28 in partnership with the Hub,” Al Mubarak said.
In addition to summarizing overarching messages, the report delves into insights from Regional Hubs leading up to COP28 and explores nine key themes discussed during the event.
Since its launch at COP26, the Resilience Hub has been pivotal in advancing the Race to Resilience Campaign's goals.
With contributions from various stakeholders, including non-party stakeholders, investors, businesses, cities, and civil society, the campaign aims to enhance the resilience of 4 billion people to climate change by 2030.
Notable progress includes the involvement of 34 partner initiatives and over 647 collaborating members, with pledges to strengthen the resilience of 3.17 billion people by 2030.
Celebrating its achievements at COP28, the campaign's second progress report highlights collective pledges reaching 3.17 billion people, with action already underway to benefit 1.87 billion individuals.
Partners are mobilising resources and implementing actions to protect, restore, or manage natural systems, showcasing tangible progress towards a resilient future.
