The Environmental Protection Agency has raised an alarm over the potential of the Weija ridge tumbling down with disastrous consequences.
Scores of residents including Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan have put up mansions on the cliff.
The collapse of the cliff will have disastrous consequences and could also cut off Kasoa from Accra as the mud would cover the entire road.
The director of inter-sectorial mining division at the EPA Ransford Sekyi said the situation is dire.
“Unfortunately for us as a country we have residents or people having properties down the ridge. If stabilization of the ridge is not done, there is a potential of this whole thing collapsing to destroy all the properties down this ridge and also to block the entire western corridor,” he said.
The area is already an earthquake-prone zone and any shift could be even more disastrous.
According to Mr Sekyi, they are trying to create awareness and start a discussion with the residents in order to find an amicable solution to the issue.
“The situation is becoming very dangerous. Everybody acknowledges it. It is mind-boggling,” he said.
He said his outfit cannot stop people from selling the land except to convince people from buying and selling.
“I cannot say that every land that is being sold there should stop,” he said adding “there is no point in parting with money to buy a property to buy a land in that area.”
“They have to stop,” he added.
