The late Awuni was known for his honest and frank talk and had several brushes with political authorities.
ACP Abass Mr. Awuni "was an exceptional police officer; his conduct, his idea of honesty and his idea about policing was quite different any other person and he spoke his mind else; he fought corruption with all is zeal and it didn't matter whose ox was gored; Awuni would put it bluntly to you when you were wrong."
The police PRO said the entire Eastern Regional was devasted by Mr. Awuni's death because "in his brief stay with us here, he introduced his dynamism, his frankness, his utmost honesty that he is noted for and these had an impact on all of us here."
