President John Mahama has announced that Government will hold Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives responsible for the poor performance of schools in their jurisdictions.
According to president Mahama, improving education in the various District Assemblies has been made part of the performance assessment of the DCEs.
He noted that it is the responsibility of the chief executives to ensure quality education in their respective districts that should yield good results.
The president was speaking at the 2014 President’s Independence Day Awards, in Accra.
"School inspection and school performance (sic) is a part of their [DCEs] responsibility...chief executives in any district that scores a zero should know that it reflects on their performance and we shall judge them by how their schools perform," he stated.
Some 20 students, who distinguished themselves in the last Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) received awards from the President.
Two students were selected from each of the ten regions across the country. They received a cash amount of Gh¢600 including books and scholarship packages.
