Defeated Member of Parliament (MP)for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare, insists the party cannot ignore his achievement and contribution to the constituency.
The incumbent MP, who managed 17 votes out of 158 in the NDC primaries in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, said the ruling party cannot gloss over his achievement and contribution to in the constituency in spite of losing his bid to contest the 2012.
The ticket was won by Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore who polled 77 votes.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Monday, the MP expressed regret for not sticking to his earlier decision not to take part in the race. He further explained that God had told him to quit but that he decided to run based on advice from people he could not refuse.
Kojo Adu Asare urged his supporters who feel disenchanted not to lose hope because he is sure God is “refining me for something better.”
He said he is certain God is preparing him for a more responsible purpose not only in politics but other aspects of life.
His defeat was expected after he made a U-turn move to contest the seat again much to the displeasure of many constituency executives, since he had indicated, in writing, earlier that he won’t seek re-election.
“There’s one thing I have learnt in all of this,” he opined, saying: “When God speaks and you defy what he says some of these things are bound to happen.”
Kojo Adu Asare encouraged his supporters not to feel downhearted or dejected because “In life things happen…” and that “Adenta is a place where my influence cannot be glossed over.”
“I take this whole experience as one that God has ordained… he is refining me for something bigger and something more responsible,” he observed and added that “I see this as a stepping stone to greater heights, I am not on my way down but I’m on my way up?”
Refusing to comment on the ability of his opponent to retain the Adenta seat for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo admitted: “it’s not going to be easy. The gentleman who has won has a lot of work to do; marketing himself to the electorates…people are now going to scrutinize the personality from head to toe...”
