The New Patriotic Party's National Organiser has described as worrying the defeats handed some bigwigs of the party at the parliamentary primaries held across the country, Saturday.
John Boadu said it is sad for the party to lose about 20 percent of its most experienced legislators but was quick to add that the party would work had to mitigate the impact of the losses.
Saturday's primaries ended with some major shocks especially in the Ashanti Region.
Nhyiaeso MP, Dr Richard Anane who was Roads and Health Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration surprisingly lost the primaries. Dr Anane was seeking his sixth term in Parliament.
Also missing out was Subin MP and former Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Isaac Osei. Others were Dr Owusu Afriyie and Addai Nimoh.
The elections also saw some interesting new entrants with former broadcaster Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah and former head of Marketing at MTN George Andah both winning the Ofoasi Ayirebi and Awutu Senya West constituencies respectively.
There was also a 22-year-old woman, a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Francisca Oteng Mensah, who shocked an incumbent MP at the Kwabre East constituency.
Some of the losing aspirants have been courageous in defeat.
"I was surprised, disappointed but not discouraged at all because I think there is great future for our party especially in the 2016 elections.
"I believe if we work together and work hard Nana Akufo-Addo will become president and we will have a better system of governance than we have had over the past few years," Isaac Osei said.
"It was a big surprise to me," Dr Afriyie Akoto said. On her part, Esther Obeng Dapaah said delegates are to be feared.
"I gave it my best shot. I worked very hard but at the end of the day the delegates have decided and its ok by me."
Discussing the results of the primaries, John Boadu said there were big falls and wins to small names. That is the fact of life but in the end the party must find a way of tapping the knowledge and experience of the defeated aspirants.
