Member of Parliament for Wa West, Joseph Yieleh Chireh, wants the Appointment Committee of parliament to take on a new structure for vetting of ministerial nominees.
The former Minister of Health was speaking on Thursday, after the House approved the committee’s report on two deputy ministerial nominees for the Ministries of Justice and Lands and Forestry.
Yieleh Chireh expressed his wish for a more standardized procedure to be used during the vetting process. He criticized the current system used by the committee, for the unnecessary focus it placed on the curriculum vitae of nominees.
This proposal was not received without some censure by the House as the MP for Techiman, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, asked for the former minister’s proposal to be thrown out.
According to Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, a nominee’s CV served as the only means of assessing him or her.
