The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has urged fishermen in Jomoro to speak with officials of her ministry when confronted with challenges rather than running to the media.
Elizabeth Afoley Quaye said her doors are always opened to fisher folks, adding they can also go to the Regional Ministers and District Chief Executives (DCE) when they have any challenges in their sector.
She also promised to sort out the challenges with premix fuel while encouraging the fisher folks to adopt good fishing practices.
Fishing communities in the Western, Central and Greater Accra have complained about shortage of premix fuel.
They do not understand why there will be shortage of premix fuel at a time when the fishing season is at its peak.
Some angry fishermen in the Central Region registered their disappointment with the development.
They said their work has been affected by the shortage, threatening to demonstrate at the Flagstaff House if they are not supplied the fuel.
Premix fuel helps to power their fishing boats on the sea but many of them said they have abandoned their boats because there is fuel.
Reacting to the issue, the Ministry said it is working with the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to have a lasting solution.
Last month, the Minister explained that the shortage has come about because of the high demand for the fuel.
She said the National Premix Fuel Committee has visited some affected communities to interact with them to know their challenges and provide prompt solutions.
However, she was not able to mention when the problem of shortages will be solved.
