The Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court has sentenced a 27-year-old driver, Nartey Tetteh Adjei, to five years in prison for attacking a farmer with a cutlass.
The incident occurred during a dispute over a stray piglet in Kpongunor, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector John Brahene, the incident occurred on August 9, 2025, at about 5:00 p.m.
He noted that the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Ofoe, an animal farmer, discovered that one of his piglets had escaped from its pen and was feeding behind the accused’s house.
The prosecutor stated that while attempting to retrieve the animal, Ofoe saw Adjei throw a stone at the piglet, injuring it.
The farmer confronted Adjei, who initially apologised and promised to address the matter, but later failed to do so.
He said that when the farmer later visited Adjei to discuss the piglet’s worsening condition, the accused became angry, went into his room, retrieved a cutlass, and inflicted deep wounds on Mr Ofoe’s head and left arm.
The victim managed to escape and, with the help of his sister, reported the matter to the police.
He was issued a medical form, treated at a local hospital, and later referred to the Regional Hospital for further care.
Inspector Brahene stated that Adjei was subsequently arrested and, during police interrogation, admitted to the offence.
He was charged with causing harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and was subsequently convicted to serve as a deterrent to others.
Police have since cautioned the public to use lawful means in resolving disputes to prevent violence.
