There were long queues at the various transport terminals in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Thursday morning, as travellers anxiously waited for buses to convey them to their destinations for the Easter festivities.
According to the Ghana News Agency, vehicles at the lorry stations were not enough to convey the holidaymakers to their destinations.
The Takoradi Station Master in charge of Yutong VVIP bus terminal, Mr. Emmanuel Baiden, said buses in Accra were not getting enough passengers for Takoradi on time, hence the shortage of buses at the terminal.
He said that two 14-seater buses left Takoradi for Accra around 0500 hours on Thursday morning, and had not returned as at the time of the GNA’s visit.
A driver at the Inter-city Express Terminal in Takoradi, Mr. Mawuli Dotor, also told the GNA that the station had been experiencing shortage of buses to both Kumasi and Accra.
Alfred Eshun, former Station Master at the Koforidua bus station, said demand for vehicles had increased since Wednesday due to the rush for the impending Kwahu Easter and paragliding festival in the Eastern Region.
Another station master said five buses had conveyed 62 passengers to Accra as at 0430 hours early Thursday morning while four buses had transported over 60 passengers to Kumasi.
He said the number of passengers had increased since last Monday also because students of second cycle schools were travelling home for the celebrations.
