The Electoral Commission has beefed up security at its district offices across the country in the wake of attacks on officials carrying out the ongoing votes transfer exercise.
The ongoing transfer of votes has been marred by attacks on EC officials by political party supporters who feel the Commission is deliberating blocking the transfer of votes of their members.
Thugs on Thursday raided the Commission’s office at Suhum in the Eastern Region and threatened to kill officials if they fail to transfer the votes of people outside the constituency.
The assailants, who are said to be sympathizers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), also took away the EC’s printer.

Suhum District Director Mensah Worlanyo told Joy News the matter has been reported to the police but no arrests have been made yet.
Also at the Asunafo South constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region, a man had his finger cut off during a scuffle that ensued when two groups clashed at the venue of the voter transfer exercise.
The exercise at constituency has since been closed indefinitely, the EC has revealed.
Deputy Head of Communication, Yusif Ayuba, told Joy News the security measures, especially at the Suhum district office is to enable the resumption of the exercise on Monday.
“At any of our offices across the country, we are making sure that if even there is no direct security, we make sure that there is a standby security. As in when they realize that an issue could crop up, they can come in and protect lives and properties,” Ayuba said.
The Commission has also launched guidelines for political parties and polling agents on Friday to make citizens aware of electoral laws.
