The Electoral Commission (EC) on Wednesday disclosed that December 10, 2019 has been set aside as date for the Special Voters to exercise their franchise on the Referendum across the country.
Citizens who qualify for Special Voting include; Security Personnel, Journalists, Electoral Officers and some important personalities who would be engaged on the main Election Day activities.
Nana Oduro Numapau, Tema Metro Election Officer made the revelation during a town hall meeting with the prospective candidates in Tema.
Over 508 candidates including; Unit Committees and Assembly Members who have filed to contest in the December 17 District Assembly Elections within the Tema Metropolitan participated in the workshop.
Mr Numapau stated that, the referendum seeks to approve the bill to amend clause 3 of article 55 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
According to him, the bill if accepted by Ghanaians through the referendum would permit political parties to fund or sponsor individuals affiliated to the various political parties to contest in the District Assembly Elections and the Local Units Level.
“Even your MMDCEs would be elected on party lines,” he added.
The Metro Electoral Officer noted that prospective candidates were given the opportunity to ask questions and make some suggestions where necessary.
