The Electoral Commission of Ghana will decide on a date to commence biometric registration in Akuse and neighbouring towns following a Supreme Court ruling on the town’s demarcation. Director of Public Affairs at the Commission, Christian Owusu Parry said Executive Members of the Commission will decide on a date after they have studied the final ruling. “The EC will have to get a copy of the ruling and study it in order to inform their final decision on the six electoral areas there.” Mr. Parry stated. A long legal battle ended on Wednesday when the Supreme Court ruled that Akuse should be placed under the Lower Manya District of the Eastern Region. Before the ruling, the Court presided over by Justice William Atuguba, said the 1983 law that put Akuse under the Osudoku jurisdiction failed to make recommendations as to whether it was under Dangbe West or Manya Krobo. The Supreme Court upheld reliefs sought by the plaintiffs and declared as null and void the designation of Akuse as part of the Greater Accra Region.
