After being laid off as the Operations Manager of a clinic, as well as her part-time job in a school owned by same entrepreneur, Eunice Teiko Godzi turned to online driving for a living. She chose Uber.
When the global pandemic- Covid-19 struck, economies globally started experiencing downturns, Ghana too. Then the pandemic started taking a toll on individuals, families and organisations.
Schools had to close down, students and workers had to resort to schooling and working from home, thanks to the Skype and Zoom meeting apps.
Her role at the Clinic and School was diverse. It included running errands by driving.
Unfortunately, the school and clinic both had to shut down as a result of the lockdown and its debilitating effects.
"So we had to go home for a while. When my boss told me that, I started thinking about what to do. At that time, I was a year into my second degree programme, and staying at home was not an option. So thinking about what to do, I just thought I could do online driving," she said.

Sharing her inspiring story on the Father's Day Edition of Joy FM's Super Morning Show Friday, Miss Godzi said she decided to use what she had, driving skills, to get want she wanted.
"So while I was thinking about what to do, I just felt like I’m always on the road, always driving, and I think this online thing I can also jump into it."
But Dad, Mr Daniel Godzi, was a challenge. Her father was so proud of her. He has been bragging with the fact that his daughter is a 1st Class degree holder, BSC in Human Resource Management, from Central University College, with a second degree in the works, transitioning into an Uber driver was not news her father would welcome.

At all. Mr Godzi will not allow that to happen. He wanted her to work in the formal sector.
Also, she was discouraged by some Uber drivers who told her that, its a man's world. But she defied the odds and pursued her dream.
"I spoke with a few drivers and they told me I can't, because they said it was tasking," she said.

"So I left them and chanced on another driver who listened to me and opened an account for me. He posted me on some of their platforms to help me get a car and thanks to God, I got a KIA Morning salon car and I started with it," she said.
Speaking further, she stated that the job hasn't been easy, "sometimes, as late as 2:00am, I am still on the road," she revealed.
She hopes to go back into HR practice someday. Until then, she's proud of her new job as an Uber driver. Or the refined version- ONLINE DRIVING.
